Michaelis Named Marshfield Girls Basketball Coach
Marshfield, April 18, 2024– Marshfield High School announces the hiring of Heidi Michaelis as the next Head Girls Basketball Coach. Coach Michaelis will return to where her coaching career began. With her experience as a player and coach, Heidi brings the needed knowledge of basketball and student connections, along with her passion to lead the team towards excellence.
During her first seventeen seasons in Marshfield from 2001-2018, Marshfield Girls Basketball amassed 305 wins, nine 20-win seasons, eight Wisconsin Valley Championships, 11 sectional appearances, and four WIAA State Tournament appearances. While she is recognized with the coaching stats, Coach Michaelis credits her players commitment to the program, each other, and being a true student-athlete drove all of the previous success.
Coach Michaelis was asked about her philosophy as it pertains to winning, sportsmanship, and discipline and said, “I believe the relationships I can build with student athletes is the biggest predictor of success. Showing student athletes, you care about them as individuals allows trust to be built and from there, I always believed that great things could happen. Winning comes with hard work and hard work is easy if students trust you. Winning and losing with class is so important and being able to carry yourself in a manner that represents this school district, community, and families is imperative.”
As she steps back into the gym, Coach Michaelis expresses her enthusiasm for the opportunity to inspire and mentor young athletes, instilling in them the values of sportsmanship, perseverance, and teamwork to be successful on and off the court. Coach Michaelis replaces her former player, Taylor Varsho, after six seasons.
